Big Bit & Lil' Harps Memorial Golf Tournament

We had the opportunity to work with Alissa and her family on their annual fundraising memorial golf tournament, and here is their story...

On September 18, 2017 Alissa’s younger brother Brian Bitner passed away from a long battle against osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. After his passing, Alissa and her family formed a memorial golf tournament in his honor. Those family and friends who loved Brian, and even many who have never met him- gathered to remember and honor him by doing the two things he loved, Golfing and helping others.

Then tragedy struck the family again when on April 1, 2020, Alissa’s niece Harper passed away from a rare form of brain cancer. Harper was only 4 years old at the time. Harper’s father is also an avid golfer, and it only made sense to dedicate the tournament to sweet Harper as well.

Combining Harper into the tournament led to its name today. “Big Bit (Brian’s high school nickname) & Lil’ Harps memorial Golf Tournament.” Each year, more and more people participate in the tournament and help raise funds.

After each tournament, the Bitner siblings gather to decide on which families or organizations to donate the proceeds. Usually, the funds will be donated to a family struggling with cancer as their top pick! This year they donated to the family of a young mom who is currently battling cancer. Brian being a wonderful dad, and this woman being a fantastic mother seemed like the perfect way to honor Brian and Harper.
